چکیده

Routing and multicasting in ad hoc networks is a matured research subject. Most of the proposed algorithms assume a physically flat network architecture with mobile hosts having homogeneous capability in terms of network resources and computing power. In practice however, this assumption often may not hold true since there exist various types of mobile hosts with different role, capacity, and mobility pattern. In the military scenarios for instance, the leader of the troop usually has more powerful networking equipment than the private soldiers. In this paper, we consider mobile ad hoc networks that have physically hierarchical architecture where different types of mobile hosts form an ad hoc network hierarchy. We present a novel and simple multicasting framework called PHAM (Physical Hierarchy-driven Ad hoc Multicast) for ad hoc networks with such an environment. PHAM builds a multicast structure at each level of the hierarchy for efficient and scalable multicast message delivery.

A Routing Protocol for Physically Hierarchical Ad Hoc Networks

Several routing schemes proposed for ad hoc networks assume that all mobile hosts have the same transmission power and bandwidth constraints. However, in real world, this assumption may often not be true since there exist many types of mobile hosts with diierent transmission capacity and mobility rate. This paper discusses a new ad hoc network architecture, called`Physically Hierarchical Ad hoc...

Hierarchical multicast techniques and scalability in mobile Ad Hoc networks

Many potential applications of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) involve group communications among the nodes. Multicasting is an useful operation that facilitates group communications. Efficient and scalable multicast routing in MANETs is a difficult issue. In addition to the conventional multicast routing algorithms, recent protocols have adopted the following new approaches: overlays, backbone...

Multiple-Landmark Routing for Large Groups in Ad Hoc Networks

A typical scenario in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET) consists of nodes having functional and motorial affinities (e.g., tanks in the same battalion). In order to achieve scalability for such a network having a large scale, we introduce, in this paper, a novel ”Multiple-Landmark” Ad Hoc Routing protocol (M-LANMAR). The protocol is an ”implicit”, flexible hierarchical routing scheme following the...

Efficient and Scalable Multicasting over Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Group communications are important in Mobile ad hoc Networks (MANET).A mobile ad hoc network (MANET), is a dynamic selfconfigurable wireless network, which has no fixed infrastructure or central administration. Multicast is an efficient method for implementing group communications. By the development of new network technologies, multicasting has become one of the important networking services. ...
